Graduate prizes of the Society of German Chemists were awarded to students of Clausthal University of Technology

Each year, the Analytical Chemistry Division awards a prize to the best student in the field of analytical chemistry. For the year 2019 Sven Hampel, M.Sc. is awarded the prize and for the year 2020 Jessica Hiller, M.Sc.

The Division of Analytical Chemistry is the second largest division of the German Chemical Society. The work of the division aims to promote scientific exchange, careers in analytical chemistry and young scientists. This is done by organizing symposia, doctoral seminars, spring schools, working in committees and boards, and awarding prizes and scholarships. The Division's Graduate Award is an award for excellence in analytical chemistry. The award is intended to recognize the importance of analytical chemistry in R&D and in practice and to identify future young scientists*. The award comes with a prize money of € 500,- and a free student section membership during the training/promotion.

The award winner of 2019, Sven Hampel, M.Sc., completed his master's degree in chemistry at TU Clausthal with distinction. In his master thesis in the field of Analytical Chemistry he addressed the topic "Characterization of "drop on demand" picoliter droplets for use in total reflection X-ray fluorescence analysis". The basic results of this excellent work have already found their way into two scientific publications, in the Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectrometry (RCS) and in Sensors (MDPI). Work in which Mr. Hampel was involved in on-site measurements at the synchrotron (DESY, P06) has been published in the Journal of Power Sources (Elsevier). Sven Hampel is now a research associate at IAAC.

The 2020 awardee, Jessica Hiller, M.Sc. completed her master's degree in chemistry at TU Clausthal with distinction. She wrote her master's thesis in analytical chemistry on "Comparison of different sample preparations in the determination of Pb and Cd in a certified soil and plant material by total reflection X-ray fluorescence analysis." Due to her excellent work and social commitment, she has also received the TU's sponsorship award for outstanding student and scientific achievements during the family phase and the Deutschlandstipendium for particularly high-achieving, committed students. Today, Jessica Hiller is also a research associate at IAAC.
