Professor Sinn (photo 1st row, 2nd from left) worked at the University of Hamburg and, as science senator, was instrumental in founding what is now the Technical University of Hamburg. His and Walter Kaminisky's discoveries of metallocene-based catalysts revolutionized polyolefin synthesis. In Clausthal, he was a visiting scientist at the TU's Institute of Organic Chemistry. The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the TU Clausthal awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1999.

After a welcome by the local chair of the GDCh, Professor Fittschen, a laudation by the vice president for studies and teaching of the TU Clausthal, Professor Brenner (photo 1st row, 1st from left), followed. The keynote lecture was given by Professor Sjoerd Harder of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg on alkaline earth metal catalyzed reactions in organic chemistry. The lecture was followed by a lively discussion over drinks.
