New Experimental Program by the RKS Chemistry Club at Clausthal University of Technology

During the second semester, the chemistry club for 9th- and 10th-grade students at Robert Koch School visited the materials analysis laboratories at the Institute for Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry.

Every two weeks, up to 10 students came to Clausthal University of Technology to conduct experiments and perform analyses. They learned about detection reactions for various ions and applied them in subsequent sessions to analyze the composition of unknown mixtures of substances.

Teacher Ms. Hiller provided theoretical background on the experiments between lab sessions, both before and after the sessions. Students were also able to use modern analytical instruments to test water samples they brought from home for various ions and to determine the water hardness in each case.

According to feedback from the Chemistry Club participants, identifying the cations and anions in unknown mixtures was a particular highlight of the event. All participants enthusiastically completed the experimental work.
