Participation in the International Conference on Total Reflection X-ray Fluorescence Analysis and Related Methods (TXRF 2025)

To mark its 20th anniversary, the International Conference on Total
Reflection X-ray Fluorescence Analysis and Related Methods (TXRF
2025) took place from September 9 to September 12, 2025, at Jan Kochanowski University
in Kielce, Poland. The conference brings together scientists, end users, and
manufacturers for a scientific exchange. In total
, the biennial conference drew 70 participants from 18
countries, including the IAAC, represented by Prof. Dr. Ursula Fittschen and
doctoral students Frithjof Mähler, Pascal Roth, and Franziska Sand.

Frithjof Mähler and Franziska Sand had the opportunity to present their
work in two of the 36 presentations and generated
significant interest within the TXRF community. Pascal Roth won
one of the three poster awards for his poster titled “Determination of Manganese Oxidation State in an
Artificial Slag Using XANES Spectroscopy.”

Another
highlight of this very successful
conference for the Fittschen Working Group was the presentation of a new impactor from
Bruker, which is capable of collecting aerosol particles directly onto TXRF
sample holders. Bruker also organized a workshop
on September 8, during which important tips and tricks for sample preparation and
software use were shared, and the “T-AERO” impactor was demonstrated in more
detail.

TXRF 2027 will take place in Portugal and will be organized by the committee led by
Sofia Pessanha and Diana Guimaras.
