Brief description:
The atmosphere inside the combustion tube is enriched with oxygen. The elements C, H, N, and S bound in the sample burn to form the following gaseous reaction products: CO₂, H₂O, N₂, NOx, SO₂, SO₃. Halogens bound in the sample react to form volatile halogen compounds. The carrier gas stream transports the gaseous combustion products into the reduction tube, where the following processes take place: Nitrogen oxides (NOx) are completely reduced to N₂ at the copper contact. SO₃ is reduced to SO₂. Volatile halogen compounds are adsorbed onto silver wool. The separation of the reaction products takes place in an adsorption column that is subjected to a temperature profile. The VARIO micro is calibrated using, for example, acetanilide or sulfanilic acid.
